Cllr Haydn Trollope's year in office as Tredegar Town Mayor

Cllr Haydn Trollope' blog 2010-11

Since May I have been very busy representing the Town Council, from meeting foreign dignitaries to children from local schools. One of the highlights so far has to be the Armed Forces Day in aid of Help For Heroes in Parc Bryn Bach; it took a lot of organizing and a big thank you must go to the staff and all the organisations that helped make this the great success it was.

I have a number of fundraising events planned, one of which is a Golf day on the 9th of October at Tredegar & Rhymney Golf course, and a big thank you to them for donating the day to me.

Like I said I have been to numerous events too many to mention, but please look at the gallery or click the links below to see the photographs or even click on My Diary which covers the functions I have attended. So if you have an event that you would like me to attend please contact the Town Council.

19th May 2011:-

As my time as Mayor of Tredegar Town is drawing to an end I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Clubs, Associations and people of Tredegar for the fantastic support they have shown me as Mayor and for the generous donations made to my Mayor's Appeal. This year we have raised a fabulous £4413.08 for Hospice of the Valleys and I can assure you that this is gratefully received and appreciated by them and myself - THANK YOU all.

I have some wonderful memories from my year in Office and it has been a brilliant experience, to meet so many different people and to see what the marvellous associations and clubs do in Tredegar as been a real eye opener - keep up the good work please.

I would also like to send Cllr Bernard Willis best wishes for his year in Office as Tredegar Mayor and hope he will too receive the warm welcome and support that has been shown to me during my year - good luck Bernard.

Thank you letter from Hospice of the Valleys.

14th May 2011:-

Deputy Mayor Bernard Willis accompanied Jean and me to the Annual Blaenau Gwent Otters swimming gala at Tredegar Leisure Centre. What a treat, the support these swimmers have for each other is boundless, if others followed suit the world would not be in the state it is in.  Again thanks to Sue Woodward and the rest of the volunteers, the Otters done us proud.  It was truly an honour to be there, you are a credit to us all thank you.

4th May 2011:-

Wow and congratulations to Tredegar Town Band who won 3rd place this weekend at the European Brass Band Championship in Montreaux. What an accomplishment, just missing 2nd place by 1 point. Well done to everyone involved, you truly are fantastic ambassadors for Tredegar and Wales.

3rd May 2011:-

Our Deputy Mayor, Cllr Bernard Willis, accompanied Jean and myself to the first Anniversary of  the Friendship Club at Saron Chapel, which was opened by Jayne Medicott M.B.E. What a treat! Food of every description (yes welshcakes I love them). The volunteers do a great job there, people come to have a chat, socialize and enjoy great company. The group are always looking for helpers but if you can't help just come along every Tuesday and spend a few hours whilst having a meal, you are guaranteed a warm welcome.

24th April 2011:-

My Consul, Jean, and myself went to Central Baptist Church for a Service during which Mrs Gwyneth Morgan and the children of the Sunday School gave us a singing and drama extravaganza. To see the children enjoying themselves as God intended was a privilege, well done to all involved.

Later it was off to the Bush Hotel, home of Tredegar Ironsides Rugby, where they had a family fun day and what a day. Well Sue Woodward convinced me to go into the stocks, bet a lot of people would love me in the stocks. Well the children soaked me but they raised another £40 for my appeal. Again thank you all, you are truly remarkable and trust me the Hospice will put every penny to good use.

23rd April 2011:-

The Bush Hotel, home of Tredegar Ironsides Rugby Club, hosted a charity night for me with great music from Don Wilson and "Louise". The audience sang and danced the night away. They raised an outstanding £215 for my appeal, a big thank you to Sue Woodward and the ladies section.

20th April 2011:-

Can you help Tredegar's Little Star Cameron Hudd? After winning his battle with cancer this brave three year old just wants to do what any other child of his age does, ride a bike. National Charity Caudwell Children are trying to help Cameron and his family raise the £1700 needed to buy a specialised handcycle, a Da Vinci Mini Speeder. This bike will enable Cameron to enjoy cycling with his family and friends. A fundraising page,, has been set up for the appeal and any donation made will be greatly appreciated and mean that Cameron will be that bit closer to realising his dream.

10th April 2011:-

Today I had the pleasure to give the prizes to the winners of Lap the Lake; it was great to see so many people wanting to give something back to the Hospice of the Valleys for the help they had received. Young and old they made it a truly fun day. I must say I spoke to the oldest participant a gentleman aged 82 and he did the 10 kilometre run, wow what a feat. Well done to everyone who competed. Photographs from the day are in the Gallery.

9th April 2011:-

My Charity night at the Woodland Sports and Social Club was a great success, the MIMICS were superb and they brought the house down. I don't think I have ever laughed so much, if you haven't seen them then I recommend if you get a chance please see this brilliant group. They have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities all over Blaenau Gwent and I raised a total of £560.00 for the night. A big thank you to all that supported me especially the group from Penn Pharmaceuticals they really came out to support me. A big thank you to Woodland Sports and Social Club for giving me the venue free of charge and lastly to everyone concerned with the MIMICS you are truly brilliant thank you so much.

4th April 2011:-

I had the great pleasure of presenting Mr & Mrs Coles of Gainsborough Rd a bouquet of flowers for their Diamond Wedding.  When I asked them what they put their long marriage down to they replied  true love and never go to sleep an argument. A truly remarkable couple, congratulations both. A photo of the presentation can be found in our Gallery.
