The Mayors Blog.

What I have been up to so far:-

Wednesday 11th May 2016 was the Inauguration of Councillor Jacqueline Thomas as Tredegar Town Mayor and Councillor Oriel Price as Tredegar Town Deputy Mayor. Councillor Thomas will be active in our community during her Year in Office and hopes to give you a view of a Town Mayor's life by doing this blog.

Well what a start to my year as Tredegar's Mayor, with events plus invites to events coming into the Town Clerk. The Saturday (14.5.16) after my Inauguration, I had the pleasure of being invited to Ebbw Vale to watch the talented swimmers of Blaenau Gwent Otters who were holding their annual gala with teams from across the Valleys attending. How inspiring to see these young people doing the town proud, so was the privilage to hand out the awards to the Winners and Runners-up. The following day (15.5.16) was the country fair at Bryn Bach Park which, thankfully, the rain did not spoil with many stalls and demonstrations being view by those who attended. Also a dog show was held which I was asked to attend plus present the prizes for the numerous different classes - my word I never realised that we had so many attractive well behaved dogs in Tredegar and was pleased to see that so many families want to take part. This was then followed the following Sunday (29.5.16) by the annual Tredegar Horse show which as usual was held at The Recreation Ground, Tredegar. The weather was wonderful as were all the Horses on show who came in all heights and ages, who's owners you could tell were very proud of. I had the pleasure of presenting the Cup to the Best in Show winner who will now go forward to other events representing the Town - sure to do well.

As well as local events I've also had the pleasure of representing the Town in other events in the area which have included a very entertaining evening in Blaina where the four primary schools held a talent night (15.6.16).

The other event that we in Tredegar have held was the Queens 90th Tea Party in Bedwelty Park and House on the 12th June. This was very well attended with Tredegar Town Band entertaining us from the Bandstand, activities for the children and of course a picnic for all. Apart from one brief shower, the weather was good and we, along with the rest of the UK wished the Queen many happy returns plus hopefully many more Birthdays and in ten years time then we can all celebrate a century in the same manor.

I hope you will join us over the year in many of the events that we will be attending and arranging and as traditional I have an Appeal which this year is split between The multiple Sclerosis Society and Dementia.

I will write regular Blogs to keep you upto date with what I have been doing plus what events we have coming up.
