SHED BREAK INS

Recently there have been a number of shed and garage breaks in our community.  Residents are reminded to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity or incidents to the police by calling 01633 838111 or 101. Here are some handy hints and tips to deter thieves;

•Always lock windows and doors.

•Consider fitting an outside light.

•Fit an alarm to deter thieves.

•Fit a good lock, bolted through the door and reinforced at the back with a steel plate. The hasp and hinges should have concealed or tamper proof screws.

•Use a 'closed shackle' padlock, made of hardened steel and at least 2.5 inches in width, with no less than five pins. (BS EN 12320:2001)

•Windows in sheds/garages should be covered with curtains, a sheet or boarding to avoid thieves seeing your valuables.

•If going away on holiday, consider moving items of high value inside your house.

HOME SAFE

As the Summer nears many of us will soon be thinking about having a Summer holiday. While you're away it is good to have peace of mind about your home safety. To provide this, Tredegar Crime Prevention Panel have come up with the great idea of a Home Safe kit.

For just a £5 donation, they will install a temporary alarm for the duration of your holiday. Should any intruder enter your home, the auto dialer will call three numbers of your choice. The kit is professionally installed by local Police officers or the Crime Prevention Unit. The system is available at any time, it is great for things like holidays but may also be useful for hospital stays or other occasions when your are away from home for a time. For more information or to book the Home Safe Kit for your home, call Milton on 01495 718139.
